ACTION ALERT: Show Support for East End Public Broadcasting

For over a year, Group for the East End President Bob DeLuca and acclaimed radio personality Bonnie Grice hosted a monthly series on WLIU FM 88.3. The Friday Forums have explored the most pressing environmental issues facing our region, with leading environmental experts sharing their knowledge and advice. The Friday Forum, along with other programs on 88.3FM, have provided East Enders with the knowledge they need to be informed and involved citizens over the years.

After all its terrific broadcasting and community involvement, WLIU 88.3FM is now in danger of losing its license, which is being offered up for sale by Long Island University. Luckily, a volunteer committee of concerned citizens, SPREE (Save Public Radio on the East End), has come together to ensure that the eastern end of Long Island has a free and independent, non-commercial National Public Radio voice.

TAKE ACTION:

Please support the creation of the East End’s own public radio station, 88.3FM under the management of Peconic Public Broadcasting. An open mic rally will be held at the Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor on Thursday, September 17th, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Gather your friends and show your support for public radio. If you miss this event, you can still join SPREE and support the effort by visiting http://peconicpublicbroadcasting.org.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass' favor.
